Download: IP Class Diagram
IP Address were originally organised into classes offering different network and host configurations, so a class A could have a small number of networks but a large number of hosts and converseley a class C could have a large number of networks but a small number hosts. This made it easier to identify and manage traffic. The IP Class Diagram is now available in the downloads section. In recent years the class mechanism has been largely replaced my classless addressing of the form X.X.X.X/M where M identifies the number of bits (from left to right) that identify the network.
