Six Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) Equipment Devices
Choosing the right equipment to perform PAT, or Portable Appliance Testing, is vital to ensure the right tests are performed on the right equipment and that information is suitably recorded – this may even be a requirement from your insurance company.
Here are a number of PAT devices together with links to the manufacturer and a UK based supplier. Remember PAT testing should be carried out by a suitably qualified PAT tester who holds a City and Guilds 2377 – 200, Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment Certificate and perhaps even the City and Guilds 2377 – 100, Management of Electrical equipment Maintenance Certificate.
When conducting PAT tests using test equipment you should also ensure you have an up to date, independently tested, calibration certificate for the equipment you are testing with. This will offer peace of mind that the equipment you use is functioning correctly for the tests.

PAT Tester selection a littlebit out of date now – Kewtech don’t make the KT74 anymore!
Metrel now have a GammaPAT – anyone used these? Great little machine does nearly everything you want.

We have used the Primetest 300 for a couple of years now and been incredibly satisfied. The Megger PAT4 DVF/3 is also a seriously practical tool. Looking to renew our machines at present but there’s so much choice!
