Tip: Make Your Windows 7 Type A Little Clearer
Computer display screens are pretty inconsistent from manufacturer to manufacturer – and a very readable screen of text on one computer may not be quite right for you when viewed on a different screen.
If the text on your Windows 7 screen doesn’t seem quite clear enough for you – you can adjust it by launching the ClearType Text Tuner. You can select to enable or disable the ClearType assistance and, if enabled, the utility contains a wizard which you can use to make the text easier to read on your screen.
To access the ClearType Text Tuner, select Start, Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization, Fonts, Adjust ClearType text or simply run cttune from the search input field under the Start orb.
There are four steps to the wizard: the first asks you to choose from two panels of text – as to which is the clearer, the next step asks you to choose one of six panels of text which look “best” to you, the third step refines this further with three panels, whilst the fourth and last step allows you to choose from six variations based on your responses so far.
Finding the right balance of displaying text on your computer screen is key to an enjoyable and productive computer experience so it’s worth setting some time aside to really look into, and evaluate, the options available under the ClearType Text Tuner.
