A mobile holder stand is useful for keeping a mobile device at easy reach whilst also ensuring it does not disappear under a pile of paperwork on a busy desk. There are plenty of accessories out there that all all manner of functions to a mobile device, including portable speakers, docks, and chargers however sometimes a simple stand is all that is needed.

In this review we will be taking a look at the Mobile Holder Stand from gadget accessory brand i-4U.

The “Mobile Holder Stand” from i-4U is novel in that it supports a range of formats and sizes of mobile devices including the iPhone and iPad (both generations).

Out of the box the stand supports the iPad 2 and iPhone and to support the earlier iPad version you need to remove the  rubber like piece from the stand and fortunately it pops out quite easily.

The device is small (around 10cm wide by 8.5cm tall) and light and, when folded down, slides easily into a briefcase or bag.

The stand can be placed in a range of positions but has two primary orientations. It can be positioned in an upright stance, at a range of angles (by adjusting the back of the stand), for holding a larger device such as an iPad whilst it can support a smaller device by rotating the back of the stand completely up to provide a rear support for the smaller device (see image).

The back of the stand can be adjusted to around 16 positions and locks into position with a satisfying click. Adjustment of the stand back is achieved by pressing and holding the yellow button on the side of the stand whilst adjusting the back.

Two rubber like feet prevent the stand from sliding around on a desk surface and they cover enough area to support the device in both orientations.

However, if I had to make one observation it would be that holder might benefit from an additional rubber like foot towards the back of the device for when using the stand in a flatter oriented position.

The Mobile Holder Stand is a simple, yet effective, idea for holding a range of devices (the website says the support devices include the Apple iPad, Asus Transformer, HP TouchPad, Motorola XOOM, Blackberry Playbook, Amazon Kindle Fire, Asus Eee Pad, and the Acer Iconia Tab). However, it is important to remember this accessory is simply a stand and does not provide any charging or docking capabilities for a mobile device.

Overall, the mobile holder stand from i-4U looks good and is simple to operate, whilst the cost, at around £10.99 on Amazon (checked 27th November 2011), makes it an ideal stocking filler for a gadget-friendly loved one.
