In this review we will be taking a look at the HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition from Hauppauge! (Model 1482), a device which can record video game play in high definition onto a laptop or desktop computer.

Hauppauge! HD PVR2 Gaming EditionOf particular interest is that whilst the gaming edition is designed for capturing video from a home gaming setup, such as Xbox, PS3, or Wii, it utilises HDMI input and output so can effectively be used with other devices.

For example: the HD PVR 2 could be used with Apple TV to capture video footage from an iPad (using AirPlay Mirroring) which might be beneficial for iOS developers wanting to show their wares on video services such as YouTube and Vimeo.

In The Box: Hauppauge! HD PVR2 Gaming Edition

Hauppauge! HD PVR2 Gaming EditionIn the box you get quite a few things: The HD PVR 2 (Personal Video Recorder) unit itself, a power adaptor, 2 x 2m HDMI cables, USB Cable, PlayStation 3 Component video gaming cable and Happauge Audio/Video Component adapter cable, installation CD (with Arcsoft Show Biz software), Quick Installation Guide, and a customer letter highlighting important information.

Out of the box the device is designed to work with Windows, with suitable drivers included on the setup CD, however the instruction manual indicates third-party tools are available to make it work with an Apple Mac. For this review we will be focusing on the Windows aspect.
