Review: Katinkas Kaboom Wireless Bluetooth Speaker
Wireless Bluetooth Speakers seem to be a popular gadget, for music on the move, at the moment and fortunately there are quite a diverse range of styles available. In this review we’ll be taking a look at one of the more recent additions: the Kaboom Wireless Bluetooth Speaker from Katinkas, currently priced around £41.29.
In The Box: Kaboom Wireless Bluetooth Speaker
In the packaging of the Kaboom you get the “Kaboom” speaker unit itself, a charging cable (USB one end/small rounded power adaptor the other) , and a lanyard; surprisingly there are no instructions included (or at least there weren’t in the review model).
The Kaboom sits nicely in the hand and feels around the size of a typical mug (albeit quite a bit shorter) and it is surprisingly light – one of the lightest I have seen recently.
According to the box charging the Kaboom takes around 2 to 3 hours which should see the Kaboom speaker run for around 6 to 8 hours on typical use and this was certainly the case in our tests. The charging cable is standard USB on one end but some kind of very thin rounded power adaptor at the other end and it was difficult to locate exactly where to push this as the socket connector is recessed into the unit behind a small hole.
Being a Bluetooth unit the maximum range from speakers is around 10m though nearer is better.
Attaching the the lanyard requires it to be slipped between two holes in the side of the Kaboom. This is tricky to feed through as the end goes in one hole but takes some serious encouragement to come out of the other hole. I finally managed to feed it through but not until the vinyl strand had poked out of the lanyard sleeve. That said, once it’s on there should be little need to remove it again.
As the Kaboom did not arrive with any form on instructions figuring out how to pair the unit took a little time. To pair a device requires the Kaboom to be “off” then pressing and holding the Play/Pause button until the unit comes on (signalled by a long beep) then continuing to hold until two short beeps are heard. Whilst waiting for pairing an indicator light (running around the middle of the unit) flashes red and blue. At this point you can pair with a Bluetooth device and everything kicks into operation. Pressing and holding the Play/Pause button switches the Kaboom off (signalled by four descending tones).
