Review: The Snugg iPad Case & Stand
In this review we’ll be taking a look at “The Snugg” iPad Case & Stand. The Snugg caught our eye for a few reasons – first off it looks pretty stylish and secondly we really like the name. It makes a change from the usual run of dull alphanumeric product numbers – although if we really want to get down to it the product number for this is B007BZOGLG.
In Operation: The Snugg iPad Case & Stand
First up, “The Snugg” really does keep the iPad snug, helped largely by a very firm hook and loop fastener strip, which really keeps the iPad in position. Other cases we’ve tried often leave just a little too much space for the iPad to move around so its good to see this particular issue dealt with so neatly.
Additionally, magnets are built into the top and bottom of the case cover which helps keep the cover closed, when not in use, whilst opening the cover automatically wakes the iPad. Fortunately, the magnets in this particular case do a good job of keeping the iPad closed when moving around.
It took a moment or two to figure out what the elastic strap on the inside cover is for – but fold back the front cover and it quickly becomes clear that the strap is actually a hand strap – designed to make keeping hold of the iPad easier during operation. This could prove very useful when trying to use the iPad on the move.
The Snugg has a leather look which is quite striking and effective, although it’s actually manufactured using PU Leather. Neat white stitching around the edge of the case adds a complementary design aesthetic. On the inside of the cover nubuck fibres feel pleasantly soft and a nicely finished camera cut-out allows for taking photos whilst the iPad is in the case.
A small loop of material is also included, on the top portrait edge, just in case you need to store a stylus (or a pen). When not required it does tuck away behind the iPad.
Whilst the case holds the iPad firmly it does expose the edges of the iPad as part of the design. Beneath these edges the case does surround the edge of the iPad with a slim border but it’s important to remember they won’t be cushioned should you drop the case.
The Snugg Is Also A Stand
Looking at The Snugg one may wonder what the extra flap of material, on the back of the case, is for and this is where a key part of the case’s magic happens.
The Snugg isn’t just a case it’s also a stand.
The stand element of the case is very much designed for landscape use. Whilst “The Snugg” can operate quite happily in its standard portrait orientation, a little like an executive folio folder, it really does come into its own when placed in its landscape “stand” orientation. If you are thinking this is just a tri-fold case, such as the official iPad case, then think again. Snugg has designed the stand differently.
The “stand” orientation has two viewing angles for operation.
To place the case into the stand configuration the front cover folds back, into a triangular orientation, and is secured by folding and tucking the case cover under the extra tab attachment on the back of the case. The tab attachment is double-lined which should offer some lasting support.
In landscape mode there are two angles for operation: a low level angle which is useful when, say, sitting at a desk or on the sofa, whilst standing the unit up provides a better view for displaying information or using a service such as Facetime.
The higher angle orientation of the stand is ideal for viewing information.
However, in use, for example typing on the onscreen keyboard, it doesn’t feel quite as steady as the lower angle (probably due to the need for the extra crease when folding the cover back in portrait orientation). However, as the angle is likely aimed as a display mode it shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
In our view The Snugg looks incredibly smart and would sit very comfortably on a board room table whilst the elasticated hand strap certainly helps when using the iPad on the move.
In Summary: The Snugg iPad Case & Stand
Overall, “The Snugg” certainly looks the part and really does keep the iPad snug. In terms of iPad cases and stands this is one of the better examples out there and has some nicely thought out features.
