According to UK Government research the “internet-related market in the UK is now estimated to be worth £82 billion a year.” and with it comes a significant threat of cyber crime.

In order to strengthen the UK’s cyber capacity to combat threats £650 million, to be spent over 4 years, has been set aside to establish a National Cyber Security Programme. Included in this programme will be a National Cyber Crime Unit, a single reporting system for cyber crime reporting, and a number of business partnerships including the Cyber Information Sharing Partnership and the Cyber Growth Partnership.

In addition to the above Security Minister James Brokenshire recently launched a £4m campaign to “raise awareness of how to stay safe online”. Speaking about the campaign the Security Minister said, “By making small changes British businesses can remain competitive in the global economy and consumers can have greater confidence using the internet.”.

This new campaign builds upon work from GetSafeOnline.org and the worked carried out by the National Fraud Authority.
