HP Issue Mandatory webOS Update

Hewlett Packard (HP) have issued a mandatory update for users of webOS devices. The update replaces the current device root certificate which is due to expire on 23rd July 2013. Users of version 2.1 (or later) webOS (Pre 2, Pre 3, and Veer) can install the certificate via the Software Manager whilst users of earlier versions can update using the App Catalog.

HP recommend downloading and installing the update prior to the 23rd July to avoid the need for “special steps” to install the update later.

HP webOSHP say, “A certificate used on webOS devices expires on July 23, 2013. For the system to be able to use cloud services such as Backup/Restore and App Catalog the certificate needs to be updated. Beginning June 6th an automatic update to the Application Catalog has replaced the certificate. That means that if your device is running webOS “2.1” or greater you can have the certificate installed automatically by activating your device and accepting the update.
