Review: Apple iPod Nano 7th Generation
The new Nano, from Apple, is smaller than it looks on the advertisements. That was my first impression. In reality it’s considerably bigger than the previous generation iPod Nano but from what I can see, it’s not particularly better.
In the Box: Apple iPod Nano
In the, always nicely presented, box for the latest Nano you get the Nano itself (for this review we are looking at the Red version – there are 7 colours currently available), a pair of the latest Apple EarPods (which are considerably better than previous earphones), a very short Lightning to USB cable, and a quick start guide.
The dimensions of the unit at just over 3 inches tall by 1.5 inches wide and it weights just 31g. For comparison the previous, 6th generation, Nano had the dimensions of 1.48 inches tall, 1.6 inches wide, and weight just 21g – which was quite a bit lighter than the latest version.
The top of the unit houses the on/off button which also acts as the sleep/wake button when the unit is on. The left side of the unit has the Volume Up, Down, and combined Play/Pause Button. The front of the Nano has the Home button and this is a welcome sight which almost harks back to the original iPod units (it’ll probably be a scroll wheel in a future generation).
The headphones connector is now on the base of the unit together with the new, smaller, connector – the Lightning connector as found on the iPhone 5. If you have an iPhone 5 you may welcome the included Lightning to USB adaptor – it’s good to have another one (as we can’t easily use all those spare 30-pin connector leads anymore).
