For the first time, in quite some time, it looks as if an update to popular blogging and content management system WordPress appears to be broken. However, this is probably not the case – you need to check your custom theme and plug-ins.

WordPress Update 3.5 Adds New Features

WordPress 3.5 Update BrokenThe latest update, version 3.5, became available yesterday (11th December 2012) via a dashboard notification within the administrative area of WordPress. A click on the “Update Now” button is usually the first port of call for many blog administrators which automatically downloads and applies the update.

At first glance everything may appear fine as you received the message “Thank you for updating to the latest version! WordPress 3.5 is more polished and enjoyable than ever before. We hope you like it.

Version 3.5 introduces a number of new features including an all new media manager for image uploading and inserting into posts. This would be a welcome addition as the older media manager, whilst usable, was starting to look a little clunky in comparison to the rest of the platform.

A new responsive Theme, “Twenty Twelve”, is also introduced which provides a more flexible look and feel for visitors to a website who may be reading articles on a number of display types including desktop, smartphone, and tablet devices. Behind the scenes a raft of new updates have been made to the Meta Query tablet, multi-site blogging, and a new image editing API has been established.
